Paxos' west coast is where you'll find its most dramatic coastal scenery, including this place - Erimitis Bay, which is now a beach.

Let me explain.
.
.
When I first came to Paxos, the beach (that you can see in this photo) never existed. It formed as a result of the cliffs collapsing in 2007. Most of the solid pieces of rock that landed down below are still there now.
.
.
The sea is deep here and the water can be choppy, so it's not one of the best beaches for families. But, it's definitely one of the island's most stunning sunbathing spots 😍

My favourite church on Paxos is located just a mile from the villa we're staying at, and it's possible to make the walk circular, passing Kastanida cliffs and one of the island's ruined windmills on your route back.

The total walk is around 2.2 miles long and takes in some of Paxos' most beautiful scenery. There are a few ascents and descents (around 100 metres of climbing and the same amount of descent), but nothing that's not manageable with a reasonable level of fitness.

Make sure you climb to the top of the church tower for some stunning views 👌

I'm currently enjoying a bit of autumn sun on the Greek island of Paxos, as a result of winning a competition hosted by @ionianvillas 😊

Stu and I are staying in Villa Lucie - a beautiful stone house set in a hillside olive grove, part the way between the coastal town of Lakka and the rural hamlet of Vassilatika.
.
.
With full bellies following a meal at one of the few restaurants still open in Lakka (I'd definitely recommend travelling here before the middle of October for the best choice of dining options), it's a bit of an uphill climb home (although less than a kilometre in distance), but the incredible views make that short climb definitely a worthwhile one 👌

The Lycian Way trail runs right through the ruined city of Olympos, just outside Çirali. And if you arrive after 5 o'clock, you won't need to pay the admission fee!

.
Unfortunately, our legs were so tired by this point that we just wanted to find our guest house, grab a shower and get some proper food inside us.
.
.
So, we returned the next morning for a better look around.
.
.
Named after the nearby Mount Olympos (Tahtalı Dağı), this ancient site was once an important Lycian city before it fell victim to piracy and was subsequently conquered by the Romans, Venetians, Genovese, and Ottomans.
.
.
The main structures here include an amphitheatre, temple gate, necropolis, sarcophagus, bathhouse, church, and basilica, and you’ll find them scattered across both sides of the river Göksu. Although, it’s worth noting that some are in such a bad state of disrepair that it’s difficult to envisage them in their former glory.
.

In spite of this, the city's location is stunning, with many of the ruined remains being backed by imposing mountains. And then, of course, the sea is right on your doorstep here too 👌

Myra was once the largest and most important Lycian city in Turkey. It was home to the largest theatre in Lycia, with 38 rows of seating that could accommodate 12,000 people!

.
Although much of Myra has now been excavated, archaeologists believe that the majority of the ancient city is still buried under 6 metres of alluvial silt deposited by the Myros river!
.
.
Although getting to these ruins involves a small diversion off the trail or a short taxi ride from Demre, they're well worth a visit and are widely recognised as one of the highlights along the Lycian Way 🙂
