✨️Green spaces✨️Two things surprised me the most about Santiago de Compostela:✴️ Just how much there is to see and do in the city that is not pilgrim-related. Santiago would make a fantastic weekend break destination, even if you have no interest in hiking OR religion
✴️ The number of parks and green spaces in the city, and that you don't have to walk very far at all to escape the crowds that throng Santiago's old town streets.This photo was taken at the Parque de San Domingos de Bonaval - my favourite place for a relaxed afternoon wander in the city, especially when the sun is shining 🌞Access is around the back of the Museo do Pobo Galego (Santiago's museum of Galician culture and history)To discover a few more of my favourite places along the Camino Primitivo walking route, check out my latest blog post (link in bio)

✨️Windmills of Amorgos✨️If you want to see the famous windmills of Amorgos, you'll need to head up to the Troulos neighbourhood in Chora.11 of the original 18 windmills remain, and whilst some are missing their sails, the structures themselves are still very much intact, over 50 years since they ceased operation.A few of the better preserved ones even contain the the mechanisms used by the millers to process the flour.We loved it up here on this exposed ridge at the very top of the village. On a clear day, the views are incredible! 🤩

✨️Whitewashed wonder✨️Together with the beautiful Agia Anna beach (featured in the last post on my Instagram feed), this monastery is one of the most visited sites on Amorgos.The Panagia Hozoviotissa Monastery is built into the side of a cliff face, 300 metres above the Aegean Sea, with breathtaking views to the east. It was constructed in 1017 in honour of Panagia (Virgin Mary), the patron saint of the island, and is believed to be one of the oldest Greek Orthodox monasteries in the whole of the country.Due to its location, there are quite a few steps to climb to reach the monastery (can you spot me on the steps? 😀), but the resident monks will offer you shots of rakomelo (raki with honey) and loukoumi (Turkish Delight) to help you recharge after the ascent 😉If you'd like to read about some of the other places I visited on my Greek island hopping adventure, head over to the link in my bio 👀

✨️The big blue✨️I've just hit publish on a post about my Greek island hopping adventure 😀 (the link is in my bio if you'd like to have a read 👀)If you're interested in seeing Greece away from its major tourist hotspots, then this post may be for you!Pictured here is one of the best swimming spots on the Cyclades island of Amorgos. Agia Anna was used as a filming location in Luc Besson's 1989 movie 'Le Grand Bleu' ('The Big Blue').It's located on the east side of the island and is accessible by car or by catching a public bus to Chora and making the three kilometre walk downhill from there.

✨️Hugging Clouds✨️One of the nicest guest houses I stayed at in Sri Lanka was Hugging Clouds, located in Nallathanniya, just 500 metres from Adam's Peak trailhead.The staff speak excellent English and are always on hand to serve you food and drink or answer any questions you may have about making the hike; the vegetable kothu I ordered was one of the nicest I had in the whole of Sri Lanka; and there's a large, airy chillout area with stunning views across to Adam's Peak 👌N.B. I wasn't paid to write this; I just loved my stay there!
