✨️Day 3 on the Camino Primitivo✨️➡️ Salas to Tineo📝 Distance: 20.7km / 12.9 miles
📝 Elevation gain: 749 metres
📝 Steps: 31,004Thoughts:I spent most of the day climbing uphill, albeit a relatively gentle incline after the first three miles - through woodland, with panoramic views out to one side, and past tiny little agricultural villages 🚜👨‍🌾🐄The sunshine returned, which instantly lifted my spirits and made the walk so much more enjoyable.And, after three days on the trail, my @ospreyeurope pack is still super comfortable, and my @inov_8 shoes feel like slippers! I gave so much thought to what I packed and how much it weighed, so I'm super pleased that I appear to have gotten it right. I made the decision not to bring my DSLR, due to it weighing 2.5kg with the lens on, so all the photos I'm sharing are taken on my Samsung S24 mobile phone.Considering that I loved the majority of today's walk, it seemed super fitting that it culminated with the stunning descent into Tineo. I loved all the decorative, overhanging wooden balconies, the narrow, atmospheric streets, and the spacious public square at the bottom of town, flanked with some of Tineo's most beautiful, colourful buildings.

📝 Elevation gain: 743 metres
📝 Steps: 35,858 StepsThoughts:It stayed overcast all day today, save for a few brief moments of sunshine following the even briefer storm that hit just as I left the cafe in Cornellana. Cloudy days aren't the best for photography (or for my mood!), unfortunately. However, I did walk through some beautifully lush rural landscapes and past the largest kiwi plantation I've ever seen! 🥝🥝🥝After watching Walk with Efren's drone footage of Salas, I was really looking forward to having a few hours available to explore the town. However, whilst I did enjoy Salas, I couldn't help thinking just how much nicer it would've looked if the cloud had dissipated a little.I stayed in a wonderful little albergue here, though (@casa_sueno), where they served me the best ensalada mixta I ate on the trail 😋

✨️Day 1 on the Camino Primitivo✨️➡️ Oviedo to Grado.I've been sharing daily updates of my camino journey on Stories lately, but I just thought I'd give you a bit more of a detailed update on here until I get around to writing a blog post (I'm still in the middle of writing about my Greek island hopping adventures at the mo!).📝Distance: 28.2km / 17.5 miles
📝Elevation gain: 557 metres
📝Steps: 42,402Thoughts:I actually loved the first day on the trail - largely, I think, down to the excitement of starting something new - a day of firsts. Although it took about 2 miles of today's 17.5 to get out of Oviedo and out into the countryside, when I did, the scenery was beautiful, and the sun was out. Sunshine always makes everything better 🌞Whilst my waterproof jacket did see its first outing on the afternoon of the first day, the storm didn't last long, and the sunshine returned once again 😀My first night in an albergue was not the greatest (it's impossible to 'unpack' when there's someone sleeping in your room as soon as you arrive, communal showers are definitely NOT what I expected or wanted to find when I walked into the bathroom at the end of a long day's hiking, and HOW EARLY do people wake up and set off when walking the camino?!?), but it's an experience that's very much a rite of passage for a pilgrim. And, I did have some fantastic experiences in albergues, too.Grado was a bit of an uninspiring town, but I did find a wonderful little cafe where I filled my belly with some delicious, larger-than-expected plates of tapas 😋

I've just returned from a wonderful two weeks of walking Spain's Camino Primitivo. The 321-kilometre trail starts in the beautiful city of Oviedo.My advice would be to give yourself at least half a day to have a look around before starting your walk 👣✨️The streets of Oviedo's Old Town.
✨️The famous 'Fish Seller' sculpture.
✨️Mafalda - installed as a tribute to the character and its creator Joaquín Salvador Lavado Tejón Ouino, who was awarded the Prince of Asturias Award for Communication and Humanities in 2014. You'll find Mafalda's twin in Buenos Aires.
✨️The Church of Santa Maria del Naranco - totally worth the 3-kilometre walk uphill from Oviedo's cathedral 👌

I probably wouldn't have visited Scarborough, had it not been for the fact that PULP were playing a gig there and my friend had managed to bag us tickets for it (it was an awesome gig by the way - Jarvis has still got it 🕺)

And, whilst British seaside resorts aren't normally my thing, I decided to stick around after the gig to have a little mooch around.

If you get the chance to do the same, make sure you take a walk up to the city's castle 🏰

Officially my favourite tree, the Monkey Puzzle is native to Chile. It is so-named because of the way its spiral arrangement of rigid needle-pointed leaves make it challenging for monkeys to climb it!

🌲Did you know? Monkey Puzzle trees can grow as tall as 50 metres and may live for more than 700 years?! 😱

I took this particular photo in Museum Gardens in York, but you can pretty much guarantee that, much like cacti, whenever I spot a Monkey Puzzle Tree on my travels, I won't be able to resist snapping a photo of it 📷😉
