The Lycian Way trail runs right through the ruined city of Olympos, just outside Çirali. And if you arrive after 5 o'clock, you won't need to pay the admission fee!
.
.
Unfortunately, our legs were so tired by this point that we just wanted to find our guest house, grab a shower and get some proper food inside us.
.
.
So, we returned the next morning for a better look around.
.
.
Named after the nearby Mount Olympos (Tahtalı Dağı), this ancient site was once an important Lycian city before it fell victim to piracy and was subsequently conquered by the Romans, Venetians, Genovese, and Ottomans.
.
.
The main structures here include an amphitheatre, temple gate, necropolis, sarcophagus, bathhouse, church, and basilica, and you’ll find them scattered across both sides of the river Göksu. Although, it’s worth noting that some are in such a bad state of disrepair that it’s difficult to envisage them in their former glory.

In spite of this, the city's location is stunning, with many of the ruined remains being backed by imposing mountains. And then, of course, the sea is right on your doorstep here too 👌

Myra was once the largest and most important Lycian city in Turkey. It was home to the largest theatre in Lycia, with 38 rows of seating that could accommodate 12,000 people!

Although much of Myra has now been excavated, archaeologists believe that the majority of the ancient city is still buried under 6 metres of alluvial silt deposited by the Myros river!
.
.
Although getting to these ruins involves a small diversion off the trail or a short taxi ride from Demre, they're well worth a visit and are widely recognised as one of the highlights along the Lycian Way 🙂

Following our afternoon wander around Kaş' historic centre and a visit to the town's amphitheatre, we were heading back towards our apartment when the sky turned that very ominous shade of grey.
.
.
Fearing that we may be caught in the middle of a storm, we ducked into the nearest bar we could find, which happened to be a rather fancy offering that belonged to one of the nearby hotels.
.
.
The bar was right on the coast with floor to ceiling windows overlooking the sea.
.
.
This was the view we were treated to while we savoured our overpriced beers 👌

Found this little beauty on the steps of one of old town Kaş' houses, guarding his/her territory 😼🐈

I thought it rather apt that I share a cat photo this morning, because Stu and I are cat-sitting this weekend while the neighbours are away, and said cat is currently curled up at my feet on the end of the bed 😻❤
